CASE STUDY

Perishable distribution / Temperature controlled logistics

THE CHALLENGE:

A confectionary distributor servicing a pan-European contract to 15-plus destinations established that confectionary deliveries to the hotter climates close to the Mediterranean were being received in a melted state, unfit for sale. We were tasked with identifying and managing a solution to regulate the temperature in areas of the supply chain susceptible to the effects of an increase in temperature during the summer months.

THE SOLUTION:

A cost-effective solution to avoid the goods melting was implemented by introducing a weekly consolidated service of the areas affected by the higher temperatures, including Southern Italy and the Iberian peninsular. We created a central booking system and our temperature recordings enabled us to distribute the goods successfully between five and 10 degrees during the summer months.

THE RESULT:

A seamless operation was set up and a solution implemented within days, effectively increasing volumes to the perishable distribution contract.

WHY HSM GLOBAL?:

Our expert knowledge and rapid implementation has been highly praised. We identified and addressed the issues as a co-operative partnership, where experience and proactivity secured flexibility in the supply chain and a quick resolution. When the temperature dropped, normal ambient services were resumed at a reduced cost.
